Finished 2nd and as a liverpool fan,im proud.We didnt signed much players,Keane was a disaster,Skrtel showed he and carra could match the Henchoz-Hyypia pair,Dossena is adapting well and Ngog,well…adoi!

Last year we couldve clinched the title if we win both matches against the scums,this year we did that,but we failed to overhaul the scums for the top spot,again.Torres had an injury plagued season,Keane wasnt doing any good as backup to torres,ended up with lots of draws,but we managed to score some pretty awesome last-minute winners.Overall,im happy with the progress Rafa made,i wish we would have a new stadium,and a playmaker/forward,centre back to replace legendary Hyypia.

Pepe Reina - truly a great gk,made costly errors sometimes,but i think he is going to be one of the best epl gk,soon.

Los Merengues are on form coming into this game,cutting Barcelona’s lead to 7 points,while Liverpool’s form lately hasnt been that good,with a draw against Man City on Sunday,which put them 7 points adrift of the leader,Man Utd.They both are 7 points behind the leader in their own league,but it does not matter here,its the Champions League,biggest competition in Europe.

Liverpool played superbly to defeat Los Merengues 1-0 at the Bernabeu Stadium.Although Real Madrid controlled the game,they did nothing,absolutely nothing to score a goal.The biggest scare given to Reina was Arjen Robben’s swirling shot from distance,which parried over the bar by Pepe Reina.Liverpool was superb defensively,with Mascherano being solid as ever,backing both centre backs,and both fullbacks.Carragher was once again immense in the heart of the liverpool defence,not making any mistakes.Yossi Benayoun scored the only goal for Liverpool,he was unmarked,headed the ball beautifully past Iker Casillas into the back of the net.It was Aurelio who setup benayoun,who whipped the perfect cross from a free-kick,conceded by Gabriel Heinze.Liverpool missed a couple of chances earlier,with Torres’ shot from angle was parried away by Casillas,and Xabi’s long range effort,on target,tipped over the bar by the Real Madrid keeper.

Lassana diarra was solid,making good interceptions to deny any counter attacks from Liverpool,building attacks for Real Madrid,but that wasnt enough to cause any problems to the Reds,but to be fair,he was solid,tireless,a great performance from the frenchman.Gonzalo Higuain had headed the ball past Reina’s goal,but it was dissallowed,he was in an offside position,well offside.

Liverpool played with the infamous 4-5-1 tactic,same tactic as Madrid.Dirk Kuyt replaced Gerrard’s position,as a free role attacking midfielder.Los Merengues used the similar tactic,with Marcelo on the left wing,robben on the right,Lass and Gago as def midfielders,Higuain just behind Raul.With Heinze squezzed into the center back,allowing Ramos to go forward,just behind Robben.They did controlled the game,with Lass as ball winner,Gago as the passer to both flanks,and Robben as the playmaker.Robben did not have any space he wanted,being closed down mostly by mascherano,was forced to do some long range efforts to have any chances of scoring.Marcelo was quiet,eventually being subbed.Guti came on,but he did nothing.I was really surprised with that change,no offence to Guti,he was a worldclass playmaker once,but i was expecting Juande to put R.V.d Vaart or Wesley Scheijder in,replacing Marcelo.With this change,it didnt helped them at all,they needed the magical touch,a player to allow Higuain to go upfront,a creative playmaker and Guti wasnt it.Real Madrid still relying on Robben to do something,and Higuain working extra hard to make something outtof it.He really needs to be there alongside Raul,he needs to play beside Raul,but with this change,that did not happen.Liverpool played defensively almost the whole match,defended excellently,getting better and better,made long passes to the lonely Torres upfront,who couldnt do anything by himself,and caught offside a couple of times.Torres was subbed,he was not fit,he twisted his ankle earlier,replaced by the pacey Babel,maybe with his pace,Babel might create something,might cause them problems,as Torres did not earlier.Babel played fairly,was not able to do anything special however.But,kudos to the lad,Real Madrid looked abit scared when he is on,forcing Cannavaro,Heinze and Pepe to mark him.Stevie G entered the field for the last 8 minutes,replacing injured Riera,who was tackled viciously by Gago.Later on,lucas,the hard tackling defensive midfielder,was brought in,replacing Kuyt,placed alongside Mascherano and Xabi,just to make sure Liverpool get the job done.With Gerrard,Alonso,Lucas,and Mascherano playing on the midfield,it seemed certain,Liverpool will clinch the victory.

In the end,it was Liverpool who scored a victory over the Los Merengues,a slide victory,1-0,but it could send Liverpool to the last eight if they even managed a goalless draw at Anfield.

Next match will be at Anfield,bring em all Juande,bring em all.
